वैशंपायन उवाच कुरुराजे च रङ्गस्थे भीमे च बलिनां वरे पक्षपातकृतस्नेहः स द्विधेवाभवज्जनः
Vaiśampāyana said: When the Kuru prince and Bhīmā, supreme among strong ones, descended into the arena, the spectators divided into two factions, each partial towards its own favourite.
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: जब कुरु राजकुमार और भीम, शक्तिशाली लोगों में सर्वोच्च, मैदान में उतरे, तो दर्शक दो गुटों में विभाजित हो गए, प्रत्येक अपने-अपने पसंदीदा के प्रति पक्षपाती था।

हा वीर कुरुराजेति हा भीमेति च नर्दताम् पुरुषाणां सुविपुलाः प्रणादाः सहसोत्थिताः
Some cried, "Look at the valorous Kuru prince." Others cried, "Look at the valorous Bhīmā." A great roar arose from the cheers of the spectators.
कुछ लोग चिल्लाये, "बहादुर कुरु राजकुमार को देखो।" अन्य लोग चिल्लाये, "वीर भीम को देखो।" दर्शकों की जय-जयकार से एक जोरदार गर्जना उठी।
On seeing that the place had become like a turbulent ocean, the wise son of Bhāradvāja spoke to his beloved son Aśvatthāma.
यह देखकर कि वह स्थान अशांत सागर के समान हो गया है, भारद्वाज के बुद्धिमान पुत्र ने अपने प्रिय पुत्र अश्वत्थामा से बात की।

वारयैतौ महावीर्यौ कृतयोग्यावुभावपि मा भूद्रङ्गप्रकोपोऽयं भीमदुर्योधनोद्भवः
Droṇa said, "Stop those two great warriors, both skilled. Let this crowd not become angered over Bhīmā and Duryodhana."
द्रोण ने कहा, "उन दोनों महान योद्धाओं को रोको, दोनों कुशल। यह भीड़ भीम और दुर्योधन पर क्रोधित न हो।"
Restrained by their preceptor's son, those two raised their clubs, like violent oceans lashed by tempests at the time of the world's destruction.
अपने गुरु के पुत्र द्वारा रोके जाने पर, उन दोनों ने अपनी गदाएँ उठायीं, जैसे संसार के विनाश के समय तूफानों से भड़का हुआ प्रचंड महासागर।
Then Droṇa entered the arena and stopped the musical instruments in a voice that was as deep as the thunder of the clouds.
तब द्रोण ने मैदान में प्रवेश किया और बादलों की गड़गड़ाहट जितनी गहरी आवाज में संगीत वाद्ययंत्रों को बंद कर दिया।

"Now behold Pārtha, who is dearer to me than my own son. He is skilled in the use of all weapons. He is Indra's son himself and is like Indra's younger brother."
"अब पार्थ को देखो, जो मुझे अपने पुत्र से भी अधिक प्रिय है। वह सभी हथियारों के प्रयोग में कुशल है। वह स्वयं इंद्र का पुत्र है और इंद्र के छोटे भाई के समान है।"

आचार्यवचनेनाथ कृतस्वस्त्ययनो युवा बद्धगोधाङ्गुलित्राणः पूर्णतूणः सकार्मुकः
With his entrance blessed by his preceptor, the youthful Phalgunī appeared. He wore a finger protector and arm guard, his quiver was full of arrows and he had a bow in his hand.
अपने गुरु के आशीर्वाद से उनके प्रवेश द्वार पर युवा फाल्गुनी प्रकट हुईं। उन्होंने फिंगर प्रोटेक्टर और आर्म गार्ड पहना हुआ था, उनका तरकश तीरों से भरा हुआ था और उनके हाथ में धनुष था।
He wore golden armour and he looked like an evening cloud reflecting the rays of the setting sun, radiant as a rainbow with lightning flashes.
उसने सुनहरा कवच पहना था और वह शाम के बादल की तरह लग रहा था, जो डूबते सूरज की किरणों को प्रतिबिंबित कर रहा था, जो बिजली की चमक के साथ इंद्रधनुष की तरह चमक रहा था।
At this, a loud roar of joy arose everywhere in the arena. Musical instruments and conch shells sounded.
इस पर मैदान में हर तरफ खुशी की जोरदार गर्जना गूंज उठी। वाद्ययंत्र और शंख बजने लगे।
"This is the middle Pāṇḍava, Kuntī's illustrious son.", "This is the great Indra's son, the protector of the Kuru-s.",
"यह मध्य पांडव है, कुंती का यशस्वी पुत्र।", "यह महान इंद्र का पुत्र है, कुरु-वंश का रक्षक है।",
"This is the supreme one among those who are skilled in the use of weapons.","This is the supreme one among those who tread the path of dharma.", "This is the foremost one in good conduct.", "This is the treasury in knowledge of good conduct."
"यह शस्त्र चलाने में कुशल लोगों में सर्वोच्च है।", "धर्म के मार्ग पर चलने वालों में यह सर्वोच्च है।", "यह अच्छे आचरण में सबसे आगे है।", "यह अच्छे आचरण के ज्ञान का खजाना है।"
Hearing these loud and incomparable words from the spectators, Kuntī's tears mingled with milk from her breasts and made them damp.
दर्शकों के इन ऊँचे और अतुलनीय शब्दों को सुनकर कुन्ती के आँसू उसके स्तनों के दूध में मिल गये और उन्हें गीला कर दिया।
Dhṛtarāṣṭra's ears were filled with the great roar and that best of men happily asked Vidūra,
महान गर्जना से धृतराष्ट्र के कान भर गये और उन श्रेष्ठ पुरुषों ने प्रसन्नतापूर्वक विदुर से पूछा,
"O kshatta! What is this great uproar like the sound of a stormy sea, which suddenly arises in this arena and resonates in the sky?"
"हे क्षत्त! तूफानी समुद्र की ध्वनि के समान यह कौन सा महान कोलाहल है, जो अचानक इस क्षेत्र में उठता है और आकाश में गूंजता है?"
Vidūra replied: "O great king! Pāṇḍu and Pṛthā's son, Phalgunī, clad in his armour, has entered. Hence, this uproar."
विदुर ने उत्तर दिया: "हे महान राजा! पांडु और पृथा का पुत्र, फाल्गुनी, अपने कवच पहने हुए, प्रवेश कर चुका है। इसलिए, यह हंगामा है।"
Dhṛtarāṣṭra said: "O one with great intelligence! I am indeed fortunate and favoured that I am protected by the flames of these three Pāṇḍava-s, obtained from Pṛthā's kindling."
धृतराष्ट्र ने कहा: "हे महान बुद्धि वाले! मैं वास्तव में भाग्यशाली और प्रसन्न हूं कि मैं पृथा के दाह संस्कार से प्राप्त इन तीन पांडवों की ज्वाला से सुरक्षित हूं।"
Vaiśampāyana said: When the arena had become somewhat quiet, Bībhatsu began to exhibit the lightness in use of weapons he had learned from his preceptor.
वैशम्पायन ने कहा: जब मैदान कुछ हद तक शांत हो गया, तो बिभात्सु ने अपने गुरु से सीखे हथियारों के उपयोग में हल्कापन दिखाना शुरू कर दिया।
He created fire with an āgneya weapon. He created water with a vāruṇa weapon. He created winds with a vāyavya weapon. He created rain with a pārjanya weapon.
उन्होंने आग्नेय अस्त्र से अग्नि उत्पन्न की। उन्होंने वरुण अस्त्र से जल की उत्पत्ति की। उन्होंने वायव्य अस्त्र से वायु उत्पन्न की। उन्होंने पर्जन्य अस्त्र से वर्षा करायी।
He entered the ground with a bhaumya weapon. He created mountains with a pārvata weapon. He made everything disappear with an antardhāna weapon
वह भौम्य अस्त्र लेकर भूमि में प्रविष्ट हो गये। उन्होंने पर्वतास्त्र से पर्वतों का निर्माण किया। उसने अन्तर्धान अस्त्र से सब कुछ गायब कर दिया
In an instant, he appeared tall, then short. In an instant, he was yoked to his chariot. In another, he was in the middle of his chariot. And in another instant, he was on the ground again.
एक पल में, वह लंबा दिखाई दिया, फिर छोटा। एक क्षण में, वह अपने रथ से जुड़ गया। दूसरे में, वह अपने रथ के बीच में था। और दूसरे ही क्षण, वह फिर ज़मीन पर था।

सुकुमारं च सूक्ष्मं च गुरुं चापि गुरुप्रियः सौष्ठवेनाभिसंयुक्तः सोऽविध्यद्विविधैः शरैः
Trained well, the preceptor's favourite used various types of arrows to shoot various targets, some fragile, some fine and still others thick.
अच्छी तरह से प्रशिक्षित, गुरु के पसंदीदा ने विभिन्न लक्ष्यों को मारने के लिए विभिन्न प्रकार के तीरों का इस्तेमाल किया, कुछ नाजुक, कुछ बारीक और कुछ मोटे।
When an iron boar was moved, he shot five continuous arrows into its mouth, as if they were but one arrow.

A cow's hollow horn was swayed on a rope and the immensely valorous hero shot twenty-one arrows into it.

In this way, he exhibited his great dexterity in the use of the sword, the bow, the club and other weapons.
इस प्रकार, उन्होंने तलवार, धनुष, गदा और अन्य हथियारों के उपयोग में अपनी महान निपुणता का प्रदर्शन किया।

ततः समाप्तभूयिष्ठे तस्मिन्कर्मणि भारत मन्दीभूते समाजे च वादित्रस्य च निस्वने
O descendant of the Bhārata lineage! The tournament was almost over. The musical instruments were quiet. The spectators had thinned.
हे भरत वंश के वंशज! टूर्नामेंट लगभग ख़त्म हो चुका था. वाद्ययंत्र शांत थे। दर्शक कम हो गए थे.
At that time, there was heard at the gate the sound of arms being slapped, signalling power and strength, like the crash of thunder.
उस समय, गेट पर हथियारों के थपथपाने की आवाज़ सुनाई दी, जो गड़गड़ाहट की तरह शक्ति और ताकत का संकेत दे रही थी।
"Are the mountains being splintered?","Is the earth breaking up?","Is the sky echoing with the roar of clouds filled with rain?"
"क्या पहाड़ टूट रहे हैं?", "क्या धरती टूट रही है?", "क्या आकाश वर्षा से भरे बादलों की गड़गड़ाहट से गूँज रहा है?"
O ruler of the earth! The spectators in the arena thought in this way and turned their eyes towards the gate.
हे पृथ्वी के शासक! मैदान में मौजूद दर्शकों ने इस प्रकार सोचा और अपनी आँखें गेट की ओर घुमायीं।
Surrounded by the five brothers, Pṛthā's sons, Droṇa looked like the moon surrounded by five stars.
पृथा के पुत्र, पाँच भाइयों से घिरे हुए, द्रोण पाँच तारों से घिरे हुए चंद्रमा के समान लग रहे थे।

अश्वत्थाम्ना च सहितं भ्रातॄणां शतमूर्जितम् दुर्योधनममित्रघ्नमुत्थितं पर्यवारयत्
With Aśvatthāma, Duryodhana, the slayer of enemies, stood up quickly, surrounded by his 100 haughty brothers.
अश्वत्थामा के साथ शत्रुओं का संहारक दुर्योधन अपने 100 अभिमानी भाइयों से घिरा हुआ शीघ्रता से उठ खड़ा हुआ।
He had a club in his hand and his 100 brothers circled him, with weapons raised, looking like Purandara of ancient times, surrounded by the gods at the time of doing battle and destroying the dānava-s.
उनके हाथ में एक गदा थी और उनके 100 भाई उनके चारों ओर घेरे हुए थे, हथियार उठाए हुए, प्राचीन काल के पुरंदर की तरह दिख रहे थे, युद्ध करने और दानवों को नष्ट करने के समय देवताओं से घिरे हुए थे।
